But remember that in Windows 10 everything depends upon the quality of the install, and Factory or Upgrade installs are inferior installs which most enthusiasts won't even run because they'd expect endless issues. Easy to follow. No jargon. Pictures helped. Didn't match my screen. Incorrect instructions. Too technical. Not enough information.
Not enough pictures. Programs can also be started with startup parameters. Pinning an item to the IE icon is not the same thing. In fact, IE9 compensates for this by changing the default behavior from pinning a site to IE9 icon to pinning the site directly to the taskbar as if a program by itself. You can already do this with Quicklaunch.
But it also works for Windows Explorer too. The IE9 update only addresses IE9. I find it a very useful thing to still have around. I hate the new Windows 7 taskbar. In quick launch, I could simply click my ie icon and open a new browser window. Now if I click it, it shows me the windows I already have open. I have to right click and then left click to open new window. It accomplishes in 2 clicks what use to be 1.
Also, I am unable to pin shortcuts to programs with startup parameters. I frequently use VBScripts and if I try to pin them to the taskbar, it groups all of them under 1 icon…again causing 2 clicks instead of 1.

I've got the exact 'bug' and no workaround, like we should have to find one, for three hundred and nineteen US dollars.
It's a buggy OS and has been since Windows , and is still buggy. They've gotten so wrapped up in figuring out the price, or what they'll charge for what features to have overlooked simple bugs like this one, or many more that come up before you do have to reinstall because of some more serious reason s. For the MVP, uninstalls right and don't look back, stand behind your product and fix this garbage before rushing to place it on the shelves for sale.
I personally feel only way for the OS to ship, as free upgrade to Vista. Not one red cent, totally free, Windows 7 is what Microsoft conceived 'Vista' to be all along, then, once they've felt confident in a product already for sale, they rename it seven for NT's 6. Some icons turn up the old windows 'default' icon on the taskbar or gone missing altogether, I can no longer right click a folder stack on the taskbar and choose "Minimize Group", only close now, they left that out, if I've got a lot of windows open, got to minimize them one at a time too.
Monday, December 13, AM. I'm reinstalling Windows 7 right after I get off this website, I just spent the last week installing and configuring, what's another week, thank you for such sound advice, I guess that's why your the MVP!
This does change the taskbar behavior and appearance somewhat, but the broken icon problem is was! Monday, May 2, AM. I had this problem but only with one icon - utorrent icon. The above fix worked for me but I wasn't happy with changing the way the taskbar worked. Anyway my fix for this was to replace the utorrent icon with a different one. Not sure if I used a bigger or smaller icon because the original icon was packaged in the exe, but I replaced it with a 48x48 icon using IcoFX.
