Joined Jun 11, Messages 3, I have installed Windows 7 without any issues and when I install Windows XP I don't get the speaker icon in my screen. I have downloaded and installed all XP drivers for my laptop but still cannot get that icon on. I tried everything possible but still without any luck. I know that the icon has to appear once I install the OS in my computer. Is there any possible way to turn on the speaker icon?

I know Windows XP is already dead, but I still need it for some of my programs I like to use and works much better than W7. Trusted Advisor. Joined May 12, Messages 84, TerryNet Terry. On the left side, click on "A to Z" then on the next page click on "V" and scroll down to "Volume Control - The volume icon does not appear in the notification area system tray " and follow the extensive instructions. If the icon and sound returns If not, keep following the instructions. Been trying various things all evening. Am looking on reinstalling the sound card driver, downloading it on a site, will try that. I think the sound card is corrupted in some way. I might just format the whole laptop, if i can borrow a driver disc off someone or get a copy somewhere.

Joined Mar 27, Messages 5, Well if that sound card is pre installed in the system, the drivers will either be on the restore disc or in the hd somewhere should be a system recovery utility. Use that to restore the audio drivers and see if that helps. I dont have the installation disc, im guessing the sound cards came basic with the machine. Also i dont have any XP installation discs at all so im worried that if i go to Device Manager and uninstall the sound card then i might not be able to get it back and get any sound.

Do you think it will automatically reinstall during startup after i delete it? Im thinking that this is a good idea but need to be sure i wont damage system.

I have made a system restore point the other day after loss of sound unfortunatly. If you try uninstalling it and then restarting it should find the driver and install it Joined Feb 24, Messages See if any of the Mute checkboxes are checked and uncheck them. If that does not work could it be file corruption maybe?? Is it the Home edition?

HideSCAVolume and see what the value is. It could be that some other program is hiding the volume control icon. It should be related to audio but it would be difficult for me to identify it.
